The defensive identity isnโt there without GP2, and Dray. You canโt just trade baskets anymore, because Everyone can score the 3 ball now. The question has become which team has better D, which team can stop it.
Long gone are the days where 3โs will overtake the other team. Everyone is shooting them. You gotta be able to stop the other team.
If you wanna keep the game plan, running threes up the flagpoleโฆ minimally you have to defend the other teams three pointers with zero space given. If they score 2 pointers, you live with that!! Because your three-pointers at 40% versus their two pointers at 50% will always have you coming out on top. But you canโt give them space to shoot their threes, if thatโs gonna be YOUR strategy!
It just look like they canโt win without them illegal screens . Tough loss tho
Good comment! GP2 is their best perimeter defender plus, when guards gets past Klay, Steph, and CP3 they have zero rim-protection. Even as good as Dray is on help-side, rotations, and drawing charges, he's not a shot-blocker.
For me the positives have been Steph is still playing at an amazing level, the improved play from Kuminga and CP3's addition, but the negatives are Klay and Wiggins(other than tonight)have been looking average at best, Moody is barely in the rotation and doesn't look at all like he was worth the high pick, and their shooting is bad, and they still turn the ball over a lot!

In lineups that feature Saric at PF Warriors defensive rating is 102.4 (208 possessions)
In lineups that feature Saric at C Warriors defensive rating is 116.6 (353 possessions)
This isnโt a knock on Saric, more so on Kerr for bad coaching, Saric is a PF at the end of the day that constantly is getting put in lineups at C but with noticeably smaller players leaving him by far the tallest player when Kerr knows he isnโt the best of rebounders or rim protectors, hence why our defensive rating is VASTLY BETTER when Kerr actually plays a traditional Center next to Saric which moves Saric to playing the 4 spot rather the 5. During this losing streak some blame can fall on some players for underperforming but we could legit won 3 of these 6 games we lost if Kerr was a good enough coach that maximizes his playerโs skillsets, tendencies, tangibles and attributes.

Note- I would start Saric and obviously have Looney play Center next to him, reason iโd put Kuminga back to the second unit is because him and Cp3 could have more possessions in the PnR so they could gel more with more reps, also Kerr failing to play TJD alongside Cp3 is mind boggling, Kuminga and TJD are both WAAY more athletic than Looney and Saric and so itโd make more sense to keep Kuminga in lineups with Cp3 and have TJD in there too because they are lob threats for Cp3, and him being the Point God heโs gonna find them, theyโre also quicker which creates for better PnR because they roll quicker the the basket opening up lanes thus collapsing defenses thus leaving most likely someone open from the perimeter. Kerr sucks at coach iโd do a better job if I was in his position

Klay is definitely on the downside of his career. No way he gets the new contract that he's looking for, from the Warriors or any other team.
A) figuring out the lineups is key; so I agree that pretty much Saric is not a center ๐ and should basically just be a 3pt threat that can potentially either PnR, cut, or drive to hold the ball above peopleโs heads like Giannis. He should do any of those AND crash the boards ๐ because I honestly donโt think heโs stopping anyone in transition ๐ right?
B) to the original pt about Klay and Wiggs getting 20 ๐ they need to consider more options for people to get 20 ๐ Kuminga is basically a Wiggs alternative, and the team should have them โpractice / trainโ to fill a similar role any night on the floor ๐ hopefully have a rhythm where they feel good about an open 3, but can also provide a real threat to blow by the defender for a poster or a midi
AND they should even consider getting Moody the potential chance to be a 20pt guy too
podz, TJD, etc etc should definitely get minutes during the season to see how that continues to develop, cuz Podz puts up numbers and TJD is a big guy with a good attitude
but you HAVE TO have that core 8 or 9 man rotation dialed in which includes Moody and Kuminga bringing solid energy and aggressiveness as your main 2-ways after Wiggs.
plus, GP2 need to be a lynchpin connecting the two squads too. ๐ he is a positive energy guy, helps create defensive momentum of stops or steals, and can run the floor for transition dunks or hit the corner 3
I think their โsystemโ has a natural fadedness being on year 10 or whatever, and they need to definitely dig into winning the turnover game with hustle defense that pushes back by potentially getting the easy transition buckets
their first chip with the solid bench camaraderie they got those EASY TRANSITION BUCKETS, ๐ which is key to keep the game / momentum level, SO THEN when you splash 3โs it is a much more effective system of building a lead

Why wouldn't they? It's not like they could've easily made upgrades. They didn't draft an all-NBA star with Wiseman or Poole, and nobody was taking Draymond/Klay unless they attach 4 picks + Kuminga to them

I would say yes, but I'd remove the word dominant. We almost need a submissive big man. 6 fouls, good fouls. A hand full of rebounds. On this team it's better if no one even notices him, unless we need a hard foul.
For instance, Chet receives the inbound pass, but never gets a shot off because our big guy goes for the ball and fouls before the shot. Two free throws, Warriors win.

Klays injuries really screwed up his entire game. Always happens to the best of them.
Honestly though other than defense I don't really see how his injuries would have hurt his shooting though, and that's mostly his contribution. He's just gotta shoot better.
Did some research and yeah I understand it can affect shooting percentage. But I'm just one who thinks he's the kinda guy who should be able to bounce back. It's not like he's been awful the entire time he's been back.

Steph and Coach Kerr is clear where the problem is. When players say they have to shoot better, not make turnovers, and trying to find out their identity, it is a coaching failure. During the championship years, everyone knew their identity because they were winning. Now, you have players giving you everything that they can, by staying in the game when they are not shooting well, missing key players, and giving you a double digit lead multiple times when they are not shooting well, and the coach is saying that they are trying to find an identity? They have lost their focus? Really? The players have guaranteed that GSW have been in every game this season. In fact, they have also presented 2 double digit leads. It has been the coaching that have lost the games, and it has been the players who have over came the odds of bad coaching to win the games that they have won. Turn overs and poor shooting are the results of good defense. Coach Kerr have demonstrated a lack of knowledge about the defensive changes made in the league this year. The result is poor shooting and turnovers. Wiggins has not changed, Thompson has not changed, and the team has changed for the best. So why punish the players mentally and publicly by placing the blame on them. Steph said it clear, that if we are going to win in this league, it is going to take everyone to be a part. That includes foremost, the coaching staff. The coaches need to know their competition, and know the rules of the game so they can put the players in position to win. This is not happening at GSW. If you live by a 40 per cent 3 point shot, you will die by a 40 per cent shooting margins while the other teams are shooting in the 50 percent and higher range.
The number one thing in my opinion that I haven't heard that often... They need to get Jonathan Kuminga more shots!!! The guy is a matchup nightmare he's probably their best defensive and athletic player and he barely gets any shots.
He hasn't quite earned the trust defensively...Still spaces out his assignments and allows easy layups in transition..Getting there, 'though..Moody's more dependable but I like both
He still makes too many bad decisions in big moments but I do feel like kuminga is getting better each game. Coaching staff definitely have him under his wing but they will baby him until he can be fully trusted

They need to start Kuminga and Moody for Klay and Wiggs. That way the two vets can go off on the opponent's 2 string players. We need speed and athleticism.

Holmgren has a higher chance of hitting 3 FTs in a row cause he's shooting 91%, than making a very difficult 3 in the last second. It was a good decision but unfortunately not enough.

He tied the game with a 3; he meant to foul him, so he would have to take two free throws, and the Warriors would have been up one still with the ball and would have to shoot free throws. It would have at least taken a second off, and the Thunder would have had no chance then. Kerr did absolutely horrible coaching the last six games. This year is making him look more and more like an overrated coach.

Yes he is a casual shooter, his injuries have made him that way. His legs donโt seem to move right. I love Klay and am so grateful for all heโs done for the Warriors. I agree losing 6 games in a row is concerning and a sense of urgency needs to happen now! From the coaching staff to the vets. Steph canโt be the only one hungry, when Dray comes back and GP2 is cleared we will have our defensive identity back. Klay and Wiggs gotta step up. Bottom line. If not; Kerr needs to play whomever that is hungry to win. Canโt spare no oneโs feelings. Itโs about that Finals Trophy. Thatโs been our DNA for the past 8 years.
This is Draymond Green and the Warriors' organization's fault. It ALL started when Green signed with LeBron James and Klutch Sports. Green signed in March 2019, ONLY a mere 3 months later Klay sustained one of the worst injuries a basketball player can get. ๐ค Then comes Jordan Poole. Poole "filled in" magnificently for Steph Curry. Poole was very instrumental in helping the Warriors win another championship. Jordan Poole was being "hailed" as the future of the Warriors. Until Draymond had OTHER ideas. Draymond Green sucker punched Jordan, destroyed his confidence AND his peace of mind AND maybe even his career, AND the Warrior organization did "little to NOTHING" about it. Leaving Poole probably feeling alone and discombobulated and at the same time giving Draymond Green "the big head". The Warriors allowed Draymond Green to essentially" shred" Jordan Poole's confidence and then they shipped Jordan Poole out of Golden State "in favor" of Draymond Green. Bob Myers GONE. Andre Igudola, GONE. Shawn Livingston, GONE. Countless other staff and players GONE and NOT looking back. SO "trust me when I say" Draymond Green is "actively" and INTENTIONALLY "sabotaging" the Golden State Warriors, so LeBron James and the Lakers, can have a better record. Draymond Green is sooo in love, sooo infatuated with LeBron James until he is acting like a madman. Draymond Green is Golden State Warriors' enemy and they had BETTER realize THAT FACT and get rid of him soon. BEFORE the Warriors BECOME a real joke. Warriors offense, for the first time ever, looked.. outdated. Everyone on the OKC lineup can shoot, drive and facilitate. From their PG to their centre. They create an advantage using PnRs then abuse warriors team heavy defense that requires help by repeatedly kicking out and attacking close-outs till they get a solid look near the rim or an open three. For the warriors, only steph can actually shoot drive and facilitate. Everyone else is one or two dimensional. Klay only shooting. Wiggins, driving and hopefully shooting. CP3: shooting and facilitating. Draymond facilitating. This makes their offense much easier to guard as most of them can't attack close-outs effectively.
the double clutch could also be a double whammy for wiggs I'm afraid. we thought he was finally getting into his rhythm but the SIKE might actually have gotten to his head and made it even worse.

A lot of people think it's the coaching's fault for not fouling, I really don't think so, it's hindside bias. It's difficult to foul with 1.5 seconds left, you know he's pretty much gonna be in shooting motion as soon as he gets the ball. You are risking a before-inbound foul and even if you foul properly on a 2, he could still make an and-one. Say the latter happened and the game ended exactly the way it did, all of y'all would say "Why foul, just let him shoot a contested 3!" I think the decision to foul or not foul is a lot closer to 50/50, you could go either way, both scenarios can work out but both have a chance to fail.

Main prob is coaching, the answers are on the team. He thinks they still prime warriors, they not. They older, slower, and not offensively as explosive. If curry don't play superman every night they lose.
Dudes, chill. So close last night. The only thing we could use, that we don't have now, is a Petulia or Bogut. Teams like ours, finesse teams, have trouble when things start to spiral. Some scrub picks on Klay, someone takes out GP2 on a layup. A hard foul solves it. Not a choke hold by a key player. Just a hard foul by a big man that can hold his own. I'm not sure what Klay's issues are, but he's not a 14pt player or a 16-18pt player. He should be averaging mid-20s or close to 30s even. He's a freakin splash brother that's just not splashing! Wake up Klay! Wiggs too! He got an excellent game today, hopefully that's him waking up! But if these 2 remains inconsistent, I think it's time to face reality and call it business is business and trade them for someone who's really INTO winning a championship NOW!
I think his old injuries make him a streaky even if he is ๐ฏ healthy those facts I would keep him as a third option and have some of younger players get them minutes and build some experience and klay will come along just got to move some peaceโs around and make temporary changes that will get them out this โฆ that being said I canโt stand this team but I still see them as solid team โฆgo kings!!!!!

Klay was forcing it late in the 4th qtr..
Literally all GSW had to do in the off season was get a solid legit/capable big man to rebound, protect the rim and catch lobs here and there like a Clint Capela type instead of adding CP3, make the Saric trade (keep Looney), get another 2-4 year shooting guard for cheap to replace Poole idk, someone like Gabe Vincent or Isaiah Joe!!!! Transition from Klay look to get him completely off the books soon, put Wiggins, Moody and Kuminga on notice that them stepping up this season moving forward is mandatory for this season and update the damn plays based off the new personnel keeping it focused on Steph but not the same small ball motion offense that other teams have been studying, dissecting and adjusting to for the last 8 damn years ๐ itโs like other teams now know the sets better than GSW does. All of that wouldโve been cheaper than extending Draymond and adding CP3โฆ

U can't beat in a 7 games series Denver, Lakers, Boston, Bucks or any good teams or even OKC now with small ball. U just can't its too many easy basket for the opposing team. U can't play and hope to contest the shot w/o trying to block it. Small is done everyone shooting 3's now. Kerr's coaching sucks & he believes too much in his old ways. This is NOT a championship team anymore!!! Need major changes. Kerr needs to go! You know we had a chance of losing this game on our first play of the game, when Klay decided to take a transition three. Don't get me wrong, Klay is a shooter, but when you're on a 5 game losing streak, you haven't been playing well, Draymond is suspended, GP2 isn't available, maybe you should get rid of the "shoot your way back into rhythm" mind set for a change. Let the game come to you. I know our offense hasn't been great, but a team with Curry, the offense is the least of our worries. Its more about the other facets of how to generate offense.
